2021 Artifacts Conference

ARTifacts x SAA Summer Happy Hour Conference 2021 places information professionals and artists in conversation with each other to explore solutions for emerging social and professional issues in the related fields of arts librarianship and art archiving. This forum highlights artists’ approaches to using archives and connections between independent art book publishers and academic libraries.

Open Call for Submissions: Artifacts Spring 2021 Conference (now closed)

UCLA Information Studies student group, Artifacts, is currently seeking and accepting content proposals for an interdepartmental  day-long conference to take place on a Saturday in Spring 2021. The conference format can include panels, art performances, short film screenings and digital artworks. We are open to many forms of content: critical essays and papers, project presentations, fine art bodies of work, short films, and interviews. The conference will feature presentations of work by a mix of graduate students and new professionals.

We are accepting proposals spanning (but not limited to):

  • Emerging trends and issues in arts librarianship
  • Intersections of art and archives
  • Teaching with artist books
  • Labor, power, and privilege
  • Preservation challenges of artworks, including digitization
  • Collaborative relationships between artists and art librarians
  • Collections as data

Please submit a 500-word proposal, a CV or resume to artifacts.ucla@gmail.com with the subject line “Spring 2021 conference submission”.

We are also accepting digital materials such as: 

  • Posters and digital artwork
  • Digital zines or books
  • Videos 

These materials will be shared online in conjunction with the conference. Please submit your work to artifacts.ucla@gmail.com with the subject line “Spring 2021 digital submission”. 

Artifacts is a group for students interested in art librarianship, visual resources, and museum informatics. Artifacts is dedicated to encouraging professional networking beyond the classroom through lectures, conferences, tours, and workshops.
